When Very Cold is Very Hot: Barbara Breaks Ground and Ice

Barbara Lingerie is breaking new ground with the Icebreaker, an exclusive one-of-a-kind limited edition made with soft, quilted fabrics normally associated with winter gear. This sassy, ultra-modern collection takes its cues from the democratization of down and quilted fabrics: Once the exclusive domain of the ski and sports apparel industry, these materials are now found in everything from furniture and lighting to accessories and haute couture – and now, for the first time ever, in lingerie.

Barbara Lingerie has brought to bear its seasoned creativity and stellar craftsmanship in the Icebreaker. “The parka or down jacket has become the focal point of intense creativity,” explains Barbara Lingerie Stylist Camille Oudet, who cites upscale Franco-Italian Moncler as precursors in the trend. “Moncler prevailed in designing ultra fashionable, fun, and offbeat accessories (bags, hats, etc.). It used its legitimacy in the market to use these traditional materials in new ways. Haute couture brands quickly followed suit; on fashion catwalks now you’ll see quilted parka fabrics in collections from Fendi, Chanel, or Sonia Rykiel, each brand interpreting the material in its own way. At Barbara, we wanted to seize this trend and shake up the somewhat conservative world of lingerie. We wanted to return to the offbeat humor that’s part of our DNA.”
