In 1875, a corset specialist named Doctor Bernard founded a corset company and joined the burgeoning lingerie industry that was taking France by storm. (Over 11 million corsets were sold in 1867.) His company flourished as Dr. Bernard kept on top of innovations in lingerie: Improvements were made in sewing, pleating and braiding machines, and technical advances made it easier to sew hooks and eyes onto corsets.  In 1958, the company was sold to the Pasquier family and the Aubade brand was born – and with it, an iconic lingerie brand that has gone down in history for its provocative advertising.
